Career highlights: Aseem Chawla is an India Bar Council member, a fellow member, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, and is a certificate holder of the Comparative Tax Policy & Administration programme of Harvard Kennedy School.
Aseem’s experience includes advising large Indian and multinational corporate houses on tax matters, including international tax, inbound & outbound investment structuring, and cross-border tax issues. He has represented them on tax litigation matters before various appellate forums. He has consistently been recognised as a leading tax litigation and international tax expert in the region by Legal 500, Chambers & Partners Asia, and Asialaw Profiles.
His writing contributions include: CCH Wolters Kluwer’s ’A Compendium of Advance Rulings on Income Tax‘; ‘Exchange of Information’, as country reporter for India in IFA Cahiers, 2013 (Annual World Congress, Copenhagen); and, his position as co-editor of India Law News, published by the India committee of the American Bar Association’s Section of International Law. Aseem also contributed to Kanga & Palkhivala’s ‘Indian Income Tax Commentary’, 10th Edition, on Indian income tax laws. He also co-authored the ‘Tax Disputes and Litigation Review’ 3rd and 4th editions, by Law Business Research UK.
Aseem was featured in an article on young lawyers in ‘The Week ’ magazine (a leading Indian current affairs publication) and was recognised as a ‘Young Achiever’. He is also mentioned by Law Business Research, as one of India’s 40 leading young lawyers under 45.
