Ms. Wan Jia focuses her practice on insurance disputes, complex commercial litigation and arbitration.

In the insurance sector, Ms. Wan acts for insurance and reinsurance companies, and has expertise in most lines of business, including business interruption, D&O professional liability, political risk, trade credit, and all property and construction related risks. In addition to policy coverage issues, she also specializes in insurer’ subrogation and complex reinsurance disputes.

Holding bars in both PRC and New York, Ms. Wan also advises domestic and overseas insurers and reinsurers on matters involving cross-boarder issues, and has gained extensive experience in providing clients with strategic advice for parallel proceedings involving multiple jurisdictions.

Ms. Wan also regularly speaks on webinars and industry events.

  • Represented five large insurance companies including Hyundai Insurance (China) Co., Ltd regarding insurance claim and subrogation in the SK Hynix conflagration case before the Supreme People's Court. The claim amount was 5 billion RMB and was the largest fire case in the history.
  • Represented a property insurance company against an energy company in a PV power plant solar index insurance contract dispute before China International Trade and Economic Arbitration Commission.
  • Represented Ping An P&C in a BI claim dispute arising out of the loss sufferred due to COVID-19. This case is the first known dispute over business interruption insurance caused by the COVID-19 pandemic between the insurer and the insured to be heard by a court in Beijing or even nationwide. This case sets an example since the result of the trial is of great guidance and model significance for subsequent trial of similar cases by China courts.
