Overview

HL Lee & Co is a corporate commercial law firm focusing on mergers and acquisitions advisory. It has expertise in various industries, including consumer goods, manufacturing, real estate, plantation, education and insurance. King Koe Ng and Lay San Ng are key contacts at the firm. King Hoe practises corporate and commercial law, in addition to banking and finance – including Islamic finance – and real estate. Since joining the firm in 2017, he has played an instrumental role in establishing its Kuala Lumpur office. Before that, he was a partner at Shook Lin & Bok for more than 15 years. Advised two private Malaysian companies, both subsidiaries of a Main Market-listed firm, on their respective joint ventures with a developer for a one-stop industrial park with a total gross development value of around RM726 million. 

Advised a firm on its acquisition of freehold land with a five-star hotel, offices and retail space, plus related assets, for a total purchase price of RM245 million. 

Advised wholly owned subsidiaries of a Main Market-listed company on selling industrial land with buildings, machinery and equipment for an aggregate disposal price of RM37.1 million.

Banking and finance

Work highlights 

Acted for a major Islamic financial institution in Malaysia in granting Islamic banking facilities of RM189 million ($40.7 million) to the customer to part-finance the acquisition of a five-star hotel in Kuala Lumpur, along with the related business and assets. 

Advised a major financial institution in Malaysia in granting RM154.3 million banking facilities to a Malaysian frozen food supplier, which exports to more than 30 countries, to part-finance the acquisition of lands and the construction costs of a frozen food manufacturing plant.
