Family and divorce specialist Rita Ku has recently established her own eponymous boutique firm, Rita Ku & Solicitors. She wins our January lawyer of the month award for this notable move away from her former firm, Withers, where she was a partner for six years in the divorce and family team and the regional division leader of the disputes team in Hong Kong. Her new venture will focus on contentious family matters. Ku has been in practice for two decades and works primarily on family disputes concerning jurisdiction, divorce, children and ancillary relief. She has acted in numerous precedent-setting cases that have gone to the Court of Appeal and the Court of Final Appeal.
Joining Ku and shaking up Hong Kong’s family law scene is famed divorce lawyer and Withers senior regional partner, Sharon Ser. She was at Withers for 12 years and noted on social media that she was joining Ku to “combine her legal career with a growing commitment to charitable work”. Four associates from Withers have joined the two power players at the new firm.
