Varoon Chandra of AZB & Partners is our November lawyer of the month for his lead role advising the bookrunning lead managers on Tata Capital’s landmark $1.7 billion initial public offering, the largest IPO in India so far this year. The deal marks the biggest listing by a non-banking financial company in India and stands as the fourth-largest IPO in the country’s history, underscoring the continuing depth and dynamism of India’s primary markets.

As head of AZB & Partners’ capital markets practice, Chandra brings more than 21 years of experience in both international and domestic capital market transactions. His practice encompasses a wide range of securities offerings, including Indian IPOs, rights issues, qualified institutional placements (QIPs), and the issuance of foreign currency convertible bonds (FCCBs) and global depository receipts (GDRs). His highlights include the BSE’s $186 million IPO, Axis Bank’s $1.3 billion QIP, HDFC Bank’s $2.3 billion QIP, and Reliance Industries’ $6 billion right issue.

Chandra is also a trusted advisor on complex regulatory matters, such as advising YES Bank on its restructuring under Section 45 of the Banking Regulation Act, which included a private fund raise of $1.3 billion and a follow-on public offering of $2 billion.
