Accompanying the launch of the Patent Law of the People's Republic of China, China Patent Agent (H.K.) Ltd. (CPA) was established in Hong Kong in March 1984 and is one of the three pioneer Chinese IP agencies. CPA provides comprehensive IP services to clients in China and abroad, with particular expertise in application prosecution, litigation, mediation, licensing, assignment, and counseling relating to various areas of IP including patent, trademark, copyright, domain name, and anti-unfair competition. CPA also prosecutes patent, trademark and design applications for clients in the Hong Kong SAR. Apart from its Hong Kong-based main office, the firm also has offices in Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, New York, Tokyo and Munich.
As one of the most time-honoured IP agencies in China, CPA leads the industry in terms of excellence, diversity and scale of its corporate operation. It now has 560 staff members, including 230 patent attorneys, 30 trademark attorneys, and 85 attorneys-at-law. Its strength in IP practice lies in the powerful teamwork of its professionals, stemming from their extensive practicing experience, solid technical and academic background, intimate knowledge in IP-related laws of a wide range of countries and regions covering China, the United States, Japan and Europe, and proficiency in various working languages such as Chinese, English, Japanese, German, French, Korean and Cantonese.
Over the years CPA has secured strong relationship with all the major international and domestic IP associations and societies, including World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), Licensing Executives Society (LES), International Trademark Association (INTA), International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI), All China Patent Agents Association (ACPAA), China Trademark Association (CTA), China Intellectual Property Society (CIPS), and China Society of Copyright (CSC). Its top management have been playing a leadership role in many of the major IP associations and societies of China.
